What is Cannabis?

Cannabis is a plant that has been used for thousands of years for medicinal, recreational, and industrial purposes. The plant contains various compounds, known as cannabinoids, which interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system to produce a range of effects.

The two most well-known cannabinoids are THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). While THC is responsible for the psychoactive effects (the “high”) commonly associated with cannabis, CBD offers therapeutic benefits without the intoxicating effects.

The Different Forms of Cannabis

Cannabis comes in many forms, each offering different experiences and ways to consume.

Here’s a quick rundown of the most popular forms:

Flower (Bud)
  • What it is: The dried buds of the cannabis plant. It is the most common and traditional form of cannabis.

  • How it’s used: Smoked in joints, blunts, pipes, or bongs, or vaporized using a vape pen.

  • Experience: Effects are fast-acting and vary depending on the strain (Indica, Sativa, or Hybrid).

Vapes
  • What it is: Vaporized cannabis oil or concentrate, usually in disposable or refillable pens.

  • How it’s used: Inhaled through a vape pen, providing a discreet and fast-acting experience.

  • Experience: Similar to smoking but with less odor, and the effects are almost instantaneous.

Edibles
  • What it is: Food products infused with cannabis, such as gummies, chocolates, and beverages.

  • How it’s used: Consumed orally, where the cannabinoids are digested and metabolized by the liver.

  • Experience: Edibles take longer to take effect (30 minutes to 2 hours), but the high tends to be stronger and longer-lasting.

Pre-rolls
  • What it is: Pre-rolled cannabis cigarettes, offering convenience for those who don’t want to roll their own.

  • How it’s used: Smoked like a traditional cigarette.

  • Experience: Fast-acting effects similar to flower, but more convenient and portable.

CBD Products
  • What it is: Products infused with CBD (a non-psychoactive compound) to help with various wellness concerns, such as anxiety, pain, and inflammation.

  • How it’s used: Applied topically, ingested, or taken as tinctures.

  • Experience: Offers relaxation and relief without the “high” associated with THC.

Wax / Concentrates
  • What it is: Highly concentrated cannabis extracts that are rich in THC or CBD.

  • How it’s used: Typically smoked or vaporized using a dab rig or concentrate pen.

  • Experience: Provides a potent and fast-acting experience, ideal for seasoned users.
